Platinum 3776 Maki-e Golden Stripes Fountain pen

£255.99

This Platinum #3776 fountain pen is rather unusual, featuring a black cap and barrel, gold coloured trim and golden stripes, which appear to have been carefully applied in a professional way.

I say unusual because I can’t find any specific information about this pen, and wondered if the stripes were applied by an artist to customise the pen. I do not think that is correct however, as a thread on the Fountain Pen Network forum, contributed to be very knowledgable collectors seems to point to the conclusion that if this maki-e or decoration (I am going to call it maki-e even though it is not raised or take maki-e) is not applied by the factory then it is likely a limited run of pens perhaps done by a pen shop.

The pen is in good used condition, with a few micro scratches as you would expect. The gold coloured trim is in good condition.

This pen predates 2011, as it has a slip on cap, and an older style of imprint on the 14k nib. The nib size is in kanji and reads as a fine width. The nib is slightly soft and writes a precise line with the merest hint of feedback.

No box, but does come with a converter. Pen rest not included.

If you have any information on this pen please do get in touch!
